We invite you for an inspirational weekend, led by experienced guides, to discover the secrets of nature in the most forested part of Europe. Get to know the primeval forest, explore five forest reserves, and get acquainted with bears, chamois, white-tailed eagles and other animals. Enjoy an unforgettable experience and return home to nature.

The Kolpa river runs through the Kočevsko Woods  and offers an exceptional experience with virgin forest where you can truly take a break from modern life, feel close to  nature and reconnect with yourself. You can expect an unforgettable weekend in one of the most densely forested areas of Europe where magnificent trees grow and rare wild animals such as bears, wolves and lynx wander. There is no better place to discover the secrets of wildlife!

The Wildlife close-up is educational route through the breathtaking forest will inspire and exhilarate you, while the presence of magnificent trees, a comradely connection with the group, and feeling in touch with yourself will thoroughly feed your soul.

The basic Bear watching programme is shaped around a group of six to twelve people and is appropriate for individuals, families, school groups, and as team-building for small business companies and public services. Providing the safety instructions are being followed, the movement in the natural habitat of wild animals is completely safe in the company of our experienced guides.

The programme is adaptable to seasons, weather conditions, size of the group, age and experience of the group members and the group dynamics.

day by day

  • Day one

    WELCOME TO SLOVENIA

    Reception at Brnik Airport (SLO) and transfer through the capital to Kočevje, a town in the middle of the forest.

    A welcome including a spread of home-made food and game in the tourist centre. Presentation of the town, area and the local history. Sorting out the tourist formalities. Transport to Marina Ranch in Koce and settling in the accommodation.

    Short presentation of the programme, advice about the equipment with an opportunity to buy or rent the things you may have forgotten. Dinner of local food and drink, informal socialising. Rest for the night.

    In the event of early arrival, we can organise a guided sightseeing tour of Kčcevje or a guided visit to the museum and lunch.

  • Day two

    A DAY WITH A BEAR

    After breakfast, transport to the eco-village Mokri potok and forest reserve Mizuk which is a typical natural habitat of the bear. During the hike through the forest you will learn to recognise traces of a bear (and other animals), see a typical bear's den (safely, guided by the park ranger), learn about its habits and pick 'bear garlic' and other typical bear food.

    We will have a snack consisting of food from the backpack and goodies that we picked in nature. We will walk along the ancient stream to the picturesque karstic sinkhole Mokri potok where we will learn about the karstic ecosystem.

    Transport to the accommodation, lunch and rest. Late afternoon bear watching from a safe observatory, guided by an experienced park ranger. Return to the accommodation, late dinner and rest for the night.

  • Day three

    A DAY WITH A CHAMOIS AND A WHITE-TAILED EAGLE!

    After breakfast, transport to the starting point and hiking to Loška stena in the forest reserve Firstov rep with a magnificent view of the Kolpa valley and Croatian Gorski Kotar. As we walk, a forest ranger will explain about the chamois's habits and its natural environment. Short break and snack.  Optional chamois-tracking and observing can be arranged with the forest ranger.

    Return to the starting point, transport to the tourist farm and a lunch of local cuisine. Walk to the Jezero forest reserve along the white-tailed eagle learning path and hear about the life of this exceptional bird of prey in its natural habitat. The learning path is equipped with bird observatories and didactic props.

    At the lake you can spend some time fishing, rowing the boats and swimming.

    Transport to the accommodation, dinner and early rest for the night. If the weather allows, we can organise a sleep outside in the forest nearby the accommodation, only for the brave.

  • Day four

    A DAY WITH A UNESCO-LISTED VIRGIN FOREST!

    Early rise to catch local wildlife from the nearby observatories, guided by an experienced Park Ranger.

    Return to the accommodation. After breakfast, transport to the starting point, Inlauf village and a hike through the Krempa forest reserve.

    Picturesque Krempa saddle offers a view of the Kolpa river valley and is often covered with rare species of protected daffodils in May. You will learn about the natural diversity of the reserve while walking to the Krokar virgin forest.

    Presentation of the UNESCO World Heritage site, the Krokar virgin forest. Return to the starting point, lunch at the tourist farm with local food. Transport to the forest reserve Kameni most and learn about the characteristics of the karstic world while viewing the triple natural stone bridge, ice cave and other natural sights.

    Return to the accommodation. Short break.

    Abundant gala dinner with local cuisine and relaxed socialising while sharing new stories. Rest for the night.

  • Day five

    GOODBYE TO ALL THE BEARS

    Farewell and departure. Breakfast. Departure to Kočevje.

    Morning Flight. In the event of an early departure, we will have sorted out all the touristic formalities on the day of arrival (see Day one). Brief walk around the town square to buy souvenirs and home-made crafts. Escort to the airport and farewell to Slovenia.

    Late Afternoon flight: In the event of an afternoon flight, there is the option for independent sightseeing around town after breakfast (square, church, museum, lake, etc.) by bicycle or on foot. For an additional charge, we can provide guided tours and short 1-2 hour trips (panoramic flight, viewpoints: Fridrihštajn, Mestni vrh, Ajbel, Ograja by Kolpa River, Bear’s learning path, etc). Early in the afternoon sorting out the formalities and a chance to buy souvenirs and home-made crafts for friends. Escort to the airport and farewell to Slovenia.

Less equipment means easier movement and a more authentic experience of the wilderness. All you need is basic equipment which includes the following:
